Mirror Neurons

What inspired this article?

Hargreaves, D. & Lamont, A. (2017) ‘Musical Development: Theoretical Models, Approaches, and Issues‘, in The Psychology of Musical Development.

Section:  Theoretical Models of Musical Development

Subsection:  Neuroscientific Studies of Music

On Mirror Neurons, Hargreaves & Lamont cite:

Rizzolati, G. and Craighero, L. (2004) ‘The mirror neuron system‘, Annual Review of Neuroscience, 27, 169-192. Available at: https://doi.org/10.1146/annurev.neuro.27.070203.144230

However, this article isn’t Open Access, so I looked through articles which cited Rizzolati and Craighero (2004).

There were 1,702 articles.

So I focused on open access articles within the past year which gave an overview about what mirror neurons are.

From a short-list, I chose:

Heyes, C. and Catmur, C. (2022) ‘What Happened to Mirror Neurons?’, Perspectives on Psychological Science, 17(1), pp. 153-168. Available at: https://doi.org/10.1177/1745691621990638
